All..

I got this from a dear friend, Judy, and I chuckled at ingenuity of some folks to get HD services of local news at no monthly charges.   Read on and admire…

Away from Wireline Services

30 04 2007

All..

This article discusses consumers changing from wireline services (regular telephone services) to wireless services. The trend is clearly happening all over the world.

Article on Shift

I bet that if a survey is done on deaf and hard of hearing folks, the survey will show a significant change from wireline services to wireless services.    More and more deaf and hard of hearing persons are abandoning wireline services and going fully wireless.

Speaking of which, although I had high speed broadband wireless service, it was not quite up to par on video conference calls - the quality was not that great - until Texas Wireless Service added an access point  - in other words, a tower -  that is closer to my house and this past weekend did some adjustments to the antennae to point to the right access point - lo and behold, video conference is now possible.   Wife and I are now able to use VRS as well.   Video quality was great.

So I will wait a week to see if this is not a temporary fluke and that it will work fine during busy times like evenings - so far, it passed with flying colors the last couple nights.  If it looks good rest of week, I plan to close one of my two wireline service.  Then I will do some more testing with VoIP providers - and if one works well with TTY - I may even abandon landline service altogether.  This is a recurring action by many deafies nowadays.

That said, I must emphasize that keeping at least one landline account at its cheapest rate is advised because to process emergency calls, direct tty to tty emergency is still the fastest way to do it.  I probably will do that.

Video Taping of Awarding to Ed Bosson

25 04 2007

All..

Steve Brenner video taped part of award ceremony where I received an award, Laurent Clerc, and where I did "thank you" remarks.   Thanks, Steve, for the video tape.    The person introduced me had couple of information that was not entirely right, but for most part he did good job of it.

Video Clip Awarding to Ed Bosson

For those of you who do not know sign language, sorry the video clip is not captioned.   Basically, I thanked my wife for her support, and then went on to thank various organizations, etc. who have supported the VRS concept.

PS: This is my fifth national award thus far.   I’m grateful to all these nat’l orgs for recognizing my work, but I’m especially grateful to people who have given me support over the years.   By the very nature of people supporting what I do is what makes it possible for me to receive awards.
