Record Hits for Edsalert
2 06 2007Gentle Alert Readers..
I felt humbled and, at the same time, proud that edsalert broke 10K hits for the first time. The final count of hits for May was 13,516. Edsalert started last November, 2006. The average was between 8K and 9K.
Edsalert is mostly about regulations and all, which I thought was a major boring stuff, so I wanted to thank you, Alert Readers, for hitting on edsalert - pardon the pun
as often you all did.
It will be hard to match the month of May for subsequent months as we saw lot of regulations that are controversial came up in the month of May. I will be traveling a bit between now and August - all work related, so will not be able to do as much for the summer.
As matter of fact, tomorrow I will be flying to Florida for a conference meeting with state relay administrators who have same account with Sprint Relay and with Sprint Relay folks to go over mostly internal issues between Sprint Relay and state relay administrators. I will not be back until Friday (June 8).
Again, I wanted to thank you all for your subscription and, especially, to these folks who take the time to comment. Some of the alerts produced flurry of interesting comments.
eyes open & thumbs up,
Ed
RT Admin.

Congratulations, Ed. You built an informative and useful website, and the people came!
Here’s a question for state relay adminstrators to ask Sprint and other vendors:
Who pays or who should pay for outreach and training for internet based relay products (VRS and IP based services)?
These are not state products but the state does have an interest in the dissemination and use of products like VRS and wireless relay. The states operate vocational rehabilitation services to help deaf people find and keep good jobs. VRS and wireless relay open up many new job opportunities for deaf workers. So, it is in the taxpayers’ best interest to make sure everyone - hearing employers and deaf workers - know all about emerging technologies.
At the same time, state tax structures are - usually - carefully described to provide support for federally mandated services like TTY relay and STS. Is it appropriate to use those tax dollars to promote use of non-required services like VRS and wireless relay?
In drafting new RFPs for relay services, should state admiinistrators separate outreach and eductation for wireline in-state and internet based services? If yes, how can that be done?
No answers, just questions. Perhaps an interesting topic for a lunch hour discussion with administrators from many states with different approaches and opinions?
Have Fun with the stars!
