Play Nice!

Linda Humphreys has graciously allowed me to publish this. Humphreys is a free-lance interpreter for 25 years.
Linda is basically exhorting her co-interpreters to read fine print and, at the same time, asks VRS providers to play nice to interpreters if VRS providers want their loyalty [implied].
Reading her article will give you a valuable insight of what is happening in the interpreter’s world.

Linda, and co-presenter Susan Keenberg, will present a workshop on this topic at the RID national conference in San Francisco on August 4th from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
I work for a VRS company and I’m looking forward to Linda’s workshop at the RID conference in SF. Should be very insightful!
Interpreters need to be assured they are being subjected to the same investigative steps as all other applicants. All of us had to pee in a cup and have a background check. There is proprietary information to protect. Yes, being unable to maintain a credit card is sometimes grounds for dismissal. And I have seen employees terminated for personal incidents entirely outside the work place.
