That website was developed by deaf-link and apparently they got a contract or something to do this. I think the concept was wonderful; however, as a few of you already said, it could be better done. I wondered if they had checked with deaf community first to see if the video clip was satisfactory or not – from the way website looked like, I believe not. Texas certainly have quite a few highly qualified deaf persons who can give valuable feedback.

Shelia, which OS do you use? Mine is Tiger OS 10.4.10. I know it should open without anyproblem but I noticed I cant open few lately. Different designs or softwares?

Boyee! I would grade it “F” to have an interpreter! I would prefer to have deaf individual to explain about emergency issue.. Not only hurricane but what about other Mother’s nature disasters – such as tornado, flood flashes?
My strongly belief is that it should not be used on computer only but it ought be used on TV as well..
I agree with a lady who made a point – what about deaf/blind? and other people who dont have computer??? I feel as if it is “discriminated” against other people who dont have computer and they are “left out”..

you have an F in this because this cld have been better explain WHY this website needs to be looked at, 2nd of all some poeple DO not have computers shld have backed yourselves up and thought of communicating withina workshop protcol and showing them this, 2nd INTERPETER???? NOOOOOOOOO Deaf on Deaf works better more speific information can be translated within Deaf on Deaf…

good try tho but timing cld have been implemented when hurricane katrina impacted us all the deaf services should have immidetly had the website up and running withing a few weeks time, now hurricane dean’s here and timing is pretty bad!

I pray for the victims and know that it cld have been better prepared months in advance.

I was able to open it up on my iMac without a problem so I don’t know what Mr. Goldberg’s problem with opening it up was.
Wonder if it’d be good to have the tips written in short steps too to reinforce the signed tips? As Sheri says, 1., 2. , 3., could be used and short text as that may help get the points across?
And it’s great to see this developed. Is this also put on TV in TX as part of emergency preparedness??? Just a thought as some people are concerned that not all deaf/hoh/deafblind have computer access.

Ed,

I think the concept overall is fantastic! Would be great to have this featured in every state! I agree with Nancy above, it would be far more easily understood if it was done by a Deaf person because the signing would be more clearer.
The context and info – very good. It may help to do each in steps. Deaf tend to 1st, 2nd, 3rd….etc, and yet, even if they do all these steps, chances are it may still not be enough depends on the severity of the disaster itself.
