Your suggestion is a good idea. Why don’t you post a comment to either one or both of pending Public Notice and Rule and Order on this very thing. Universal for ANY who have video phones. (upcoming vlog soon)

I support the universal numbering concept but really want it to be “universal” and not just for VRS, but for everyone who uses a videophone with a neutral central registry that has the ability to be accessed to find these numbers or handles or registered email addresses or however they are called like a phone book, just like phone numbers.

My question: Is Verizon concerned that since only one VRS provider has the technology capability of providing uniforming telephone number that FCC would approve the plan and put Sorenson in position of monopolizing the phone numbers?

Just guessing…on the surface this looks encouraging that a major company is sticking up for us being able to call one another using real phone numbers or at least an universally accepted number unique to each of us.

In other words, we won’t need a separate phone number for each competitor relay services, nor have to use hard to remember IP numbers to call friends. If I am missing something, please let me know.

Personally, I’d prefer handles or real names.

In other words, you wonder about the hidden agenda? ;-] I found it intriguing as well and thought I’ll post that. It may be referring to proxy phone numbers and that this kind of business practice should cease. I’m just guessing.

Seems what Verizon didnt say in this letter says more than what Verizon did say. Now that Verizon has divested its trs/ip/vrs business, they are looking at the numbering proposals strictly from a basis of cost to Verizon. I would like to know what Verizon considers “cost effective and efficient” and would like to see Verizon spell out what they are so concerned about that they would meet with FCC staff on the matter. Taking the letter at face value, it is the American flag and apple pie.
