Paul,

Happy belated Independence Day!

I have seen Sprint Relay folks use air broadband card in their laptops and use VRS or video conference with that. For most part, it seems to work. You may try contacting any top management of Sprint Relay as it seems most of them have air broadband cards.

Also laptops have built-in search program that looks for available free WiFi, and I've used that and about half of the connections, video conference works.

Hope folks respond to you on ur apple.

eyes open & thumbs up,

Ed, You're welcome to share this with your subscribers, especially those in rural areas and those who travel a lot with their laptop. My home does not have cable and the satellite up/download speeds aren't anything to brag about. Phil Jacobs (a VP user from NJ) told me about this air broadband card that attaches to the side of a laptop and connection to the internet is made if you're in a covered area. I researched a bit on Google and find the up/download speeds not too bad and if those speeds hold up, then maybe I can, after all, connect with my many VP friends and VRS. I have a MAC laptop with a built in camera viewer and wonder if it will work this way. First, I'd like to communicate with anyone who has tried this broadband card and get their comments. Do you know anyone I may connect with ? Happy 4th. Paul Taylor

Charles,

On ur last remark, that has been my observation as well. What I've found out that many of them have cable, have HDTV, pays premium rates, and pagers along with monthly payments.

On other hand, speaking of the last few months, rising gasoline prices have impacted these folks much more than we realize. I've gotten a few complaints from vendors themselves who said many of them stopped paying for the pager service simply because they cannot afford it anymore. I would be curious if they continue TV cable payments?

Have to agree with Vint that many folks do not really know what they are missing. Only 3 of my former classmates have email and are easy to keep in touch with. It feels like all the others live on another planet.

Is cost really a deciding factor? There are so many deafies on SSI who not only have broadband but also carry Blackberries. One has to wonder.
