FCC Ruling on 800 #

6 12 2009

All..

The link will show you the full blown order by the FCC on 800 number.

FCC Ruling

Bottom line is FCC will waive its own requirements for 4 months regarding 800 # for VRS.

"we [FCC] waive, on our own motion, for a period of four months, that portion of the Toll Free Clarification Public Notice that stated that toll free numbers and ten-digit geographic numbers should not be directed to the same Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) in the iTRS Directory.."

Above is the core purpose of the ruling.   Rest of the remarks explain the rationale why.  Read and realize that federal government does listen to deaf/hoh communities.   TDI did an admirable job of representing deaf/hoh in this tough situation.  Although sometimes FCC takes its sweet time, but in this case they did it pretty quickly.

eyes open & thumbs up,

Ed

SorensnVRS really not needed to set up 866 number and given to every Sorenson VRS users, just given to those for business. That created problems for us!

Please simplify what it is the FCC has done now. Have they suspended the previous order to remove 800 #’s from database which Sorenson did?

RLM,

I apologize for the links. It is reason why I added “PS” to include the long links. I upgraded WordPress, and so far it is causing problem. I will continue to add long links to the “PS” because I am not sure how to “fix” this problem as it was form upgrade that caused the problem.

So FCC is postponing the inevitable or does it mean FCC is reconsidering q

Dan,

Basically FCC is giving VRS providers an oppty to fix their problems to where the problems adhere to relay regulations. VRS providers are given 4 months to “fix” the problem. Must do it in 4 months.

However, I am sure that FCC is revisiting the issue; I would not be surprised if Dec 17 meeting includes that issue.
