Hi Ed,
Had an interesting conversation with my friends last weekend. Thought I’d check with you about this. Sorenson Trainer comes in to “replace” a VP100/200. They are required to report in when they complete their work to their “supervisor” through VRS. Are they “required” to use SorensonVRS to report their work? customer’s choice?

Example: Sorenson Trainer came in my place and replaced VP100. Sorenson Trainer said that he had to call in to report thru SorensonVRS and we had to wait more than 3 minutes (on Friday). I was pretty upset so was he. We waited and waited. I walked around…decided to hung up. He said why? I told him…call other VRS provider and see what will happens…few seconds and answered. Sorenson Trainer gulped…it’s MY house, my choice.

Ed, what you think?

David,

You exercised what u felt was ur right. The FCC intended that all Video Phones to be fully interoperable so it should be that.

Your comment made me think of another related issue. As new video phone comes aboard - like recent one by SNAPVRS of its OJO VP - and possibly couple other VRS providers getting read to do so, it will provide an interesting challenge for VRS users. Obviously we can’t try to have three or four vp in our homes or work offices (I’m sure some of us will try though). Majority of us now have vp-100 or vp-200, so if VRS user(s) chose to use one particular vp (non-Sorenson), what will happen to the vp-100 or 200; or alternatively perhaps some of the VRS users tried using other non-S vp and still prefer to keep the vp-200, what will happen to the abandonded vp? I’ve wondered about that and I do not think it has been fully addressed by the VRS providers so it left us VRS users hanging on what to do with VP. What do you think, David?
At any rate, I may do a vlog on this very issue - thanks for the idea, David.

Ed, can you point me to the FCC rulings/court orders regarding VRS reimbursement rates and the means in which one would go about seeking reimmbursement, as well as relating filings that are required and other pertinent specifics. From what I was told, the rates have been locked in until 2011, but I can’t seem to track down the definitive FCC documents on this or VRS in general (other than broad overviews).

Thanks for your guidance and glad you’ve got this site.

Jake,

The FCC website is like a maze ;-] Since I just got back from two day out of office I’m catching up on work now. Later when I have more time, I can try and track it down, but you may try going to www.fcc.gov/cgb/dro and then click to the link that focuses on recent TRS releases.

I believe I posted that - but I can’t remember ;-] Try going to edsalert.com and click to the FCC category and review the posts there.

eyes open & thumbs up,

Ed
